Art was my passion growing up. My high school art teacher, Mrs. Gatti, made creating a joy and I found a lot of success and accolades through my art. I briefly pursued becoming a graphic artist in college, which was ultimately a mistake. When they said I had to "unlearn all of the bad habits from high school", I opted for a career in computer science. "I'd rather be a fat capitalist than a starving artist" was the funny way I explained it, but the reality was, my experience really messed me up.
Still, I always found a lot of ways to show my creativity in my work - first in software development and then in sales & marketing. As an entrepreneur, I did a fair amount of custom art via digital design and even got into screen printing and promotional marketing.
My beautiful wife of 32 years, Wendy, has always found ways to encourage me to be creative, starting with a custom marriage certificate that I completed using calligraphy! Our house and property are art projects themselves. She's wonderful at decorating and has always used color and decorations to create little themes for every room. Our gardens flourish with color all around the property throughout the year.
She is passionate about animal rescue and we do a lot of fostering, adoptions, and volunteering with different rescues. In all these, she encourages me to be creative through creating and auctioning custom works, illustration, digital design, and the like.
My sons are both artists. Brandon is a phenomenal actor and a wonderful stand-up comedian! He's been the lead in many local and off-Broadway productions. Colin is a self-taught musician and music editor. He can play just about any instrument he picks up, although his passion now is bass guitar, and he is truly gifted when it comes to music production! I always encouraged them to pursue their passion but I told them if that's what they really wanted to do, to really DO it so they didn't end up in their 50s regretting they didn't try. (Wow, did that boomerang on me!) It's fun and scary when your kids start to give you your own advice back, but it was very effective.
A lot has changed for me because of their encouragement and support, especially in the last few years. To learn more about how and why, I hope you will read about My Inspiration on the other side of the page.

And then we visited Italy!
During a visit there for our 25th wedding anniversary, we found Wendy's ancestral home town of Schiavi di Abruzzo. The vistas and ancient architecture just hooked me! I actually WANTED to draw and paint and photograph everything to preserve it in my mind and to share it with others. A friend there even commissioned me to do a simple mural on their house!
You'll see many of my works are of places and objects from Schiavi, and from all around Italy. Antique doors from Schiavi, a quiet canal in Venice, a cafe in Rome, a Tuscan village called Loro Ciuffena, the view of an Abruzzo mountain.
We found reasons to return again and again, making many new and wonderful friends. Now we own a small villa in Schiavi and we plan to spend more and more time there exploring with friends and creating more memories as we approach "retirement". I actually sold my first piece there to a neighbor who saw my painting of their door posted online by one of our friends. Since then, I've done about a dozen art commissions here and overseas.
In the coming months & years, we will obtain dual citizenship, open a studio there, and likely join a cooperative with our friends - other artisans and business owners in town.
I included some links to this wonderful, tranquil, friendly little village in the mountains. We'd love for you to visit us there and to feel the same passion this ancient village has inspired in me!
You will see many art commissions in acrylic on canvas, but I am very eclectic. I paint on wood, exterior and interior walls, and other objects - like our fence! I love 3D projects as well - woodworking, pottery, and the like.
My favorite media as a graphic artist are acrylic paints, colored pencils, ink, watercolor, charcoal and pastels

My favorite media as a graphic artist are acrylic paints, colored pencils, ink, watercolor, charcoal and pastels, and regular exterior paint! I love doing custom art in small to medium sized works because I am very detail oriented and that is a huge challenge when fitting a LOT into a little space. I also love very large projects, like murals on internal and external walls.
Just don't expect to see me up too high on a ladder or scaffolding!
